Your data is yours, and if you allow Sensate to keep track of your data you will be able to see how you progress over time. Android devices require you to accept location tracking otherwise Bluetooth will be disabled, we are not tracking your location however!

Achieving your best results

Your Sensate is designed to enable effortless profound relaxation in 10 minutes a day. You can use your Sensate more than this, and many people do.

A Sensate session
Recline and position your Sensate high up on the centre line of your chest bone (about 4 fingers below the top of your breastbone). Feels great under or between clothes or rest a flat hand on top to create a ‘hand on heart’ experience.

What should I feel?
Your Sensate Pebble emits near infrasound vibrations. When positioned on the chest bone these vibrations are transmitted via bone conduction into the chest cavity. This should feel like a very pleasant hum spreading across the chest. You can control the strength of the vibrations using the Intensity slider.

Be Sensate – don’t combine with other activities
Gift yourself 10 minutes a day of deep calm. The magic happens when you reclining somewhere comfortable, quiet and warm and close your eyes. You have time. 

 
Interruptions
Incoming calls etc. will pause Sensate. When the call is finished, go back to the App and press play. Set phone to Airplane Mode if you don’t want to be interrupted, but note use of Airplane mode below:

Bluetooth and wifi are automatically switched off on iOS when you turn on airplane mode. If you then switch them on, it’ll remember that setting the next time that you switch to airplane mode. Some more info here: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204234

FAQ’s/Frequently Asked Questions:

USE

Q: How long can I use Sensate for each day?
A: We suggest 10 minutes a day, but many people do several sessions daily.

Q: Who should NOT use Sensate?
A: We suggest that people with a pacemaker and similar medical devices fitted avoid using Sensate. We have not tested Sensate on pregnant women or infants, so cannot recommend use in these cases.

Q: Is Bluetooth safe?
A: The Bluetooth Low Energy radio receiver in your Sensate emits much less energy than your mobile phone. Sensate has been tested against the CE directive and conforms to safe standards. The Pebble uses Bluetooth Low Energy, which uses a very small part of the spectrum at an extremely low energy to transmit its signals. It only transmits for a small percentage of the time (i.e. there is no constant signal) and your Pebble has been designed to keep transmissions to a minimum.

Q: How useful is the before and after Wellness Check useful?
A: This is based on the Subjective Wellbeing (SWB) score used as a validated measurement of overall health by medical professionals.
We strongly recommend that you note how you feel before and after each session, as over time this will give you an accurate indication of your wellbeing and progress.

Q: Can anyone else use my Sensate?
A: You can allow anyone to use your Pebble. Sensate will only work with a single App at a given time. If you have more than one Sensate device, you will need to turn off the second device to ensure your App connects to the Sensate in use.
 
BATTERY

Q: How long does the battery last / how long should it take to fully recharge the battery?
A: Sensate requires a lot of power to produce its infrasonic vibrations! One charge should provide between 4-6 ten minute sessions. The white light will turn off when the battery is fully charged, which takes between 2-4 hours. Please note that the battery level light can go from green to orange/red very quickly, so we recommend that you re-charge Sensate after every 3-4 tracks. Sensate can be left on charge as needed, including overnight.
 
BLUETOOTH

Q: PIN issues - I’m being asked for a PIN number when I pair in Bluetooth?
A: No pin required. You don’t need to pair Sensate with your phone, Bluetooth connection is automatic, you just need to ensure Bluetooth is on (no pairing), open the app and then start your Sensate. If you are having problems trying to connect, make sure that Sensate is switched on before opening the app and is located close to your phone.

Q: Bluetooth won’t connect.
A: (see also ‘PIN issues’ if you are being asked for a PIN number).
There are a couple of things that you can check: making sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and Sensate is turned on and close to your phone.
If you are using an iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and check the toggle is on.  If you are using an Android phone, go to Settings and search for Bluetooth. This can be in different places dependant on the Android phone. Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled. Once enabled, with Sensate turned on (solid white light)  open the Sensate app. The app will automatically connect to Sensate. 
Some Android devices will ask for permission to use Bluetooth or location, this will be shown as a pop-up when you open the app. You’ll need to approve this access for Sensate to communicate with the app by selecting 'Allow'. If you’ve accidentally declined Bluetooth/location usage, the easiest way to fix this is to delete the app and re-download it from the Google Play Store.

iPhone

  • Check that Bluetooth is switched on by navigating to Settings > Bluetooth 
  • Make sure that Sensate and your iPhone are close together, within a couple of metres is ideal
  • Open the app, Sensate should connect automatically.
  • If Sensate is still not connected, turn Sensate off and on again. It should display a solid white light.
  • Reopen the app once Sensate is switched on

  * To quit an App on an iPhone, double click the Home button and swipe the Sensate screen upwards 

Android

  • Check that Bluetooth is switch on by navigating to settings. Each Android device is different, so search for 'Bluetooth' in settings and check the Bluetooth enable setting is switch on.
  • Open the app, Sensate should connect automatically.
  • If Sensate is still not connected, turn Sensate off and on again. It should display a solid white light.
  • Reopen the app once Sensate is switch on
  • If the Sensate device becomes disconnected as you've moved Sensate too far from the phone, once back in range, tap the 'Disconnected from Sensate' button on the home screen, to reconnect.

  * To quit an App on Android, launch the recent apps menu. This differs on Android devices, for example, on LG devices you tap the square button to get to recent apps, while on the Galaxy devices the icon looks like two 90 degree-angles. Once open, find the Sensate app and swipe it away.

Q: I have more than one Sensate device, can they be used at the same time?
A: Currently the app will connect to the first Sensate that it finds, so if you are trying to use more than one Sensate at the same time in the same room, you may experience connection issues. We are working to support multiple Sensate devices.

Q: Can I have the app on more than one phone?
A: Yes! You can install the app on as many phones as you like, however Sensate can only connect to a single phone at a time, so make sure to fully exist the app when you finish your session.

 

ON / OFF

Q: I can’t switch my Sensate off!

A: If the Sensate light is green and pressing and holding the button for 3 seconds several times does not turn off your device, then your Sensate has frozen. Leave until the battery is fully discharged, re-charge until white light goes off and restart.

If the Sensate light is flashing green and yellow, it is in update mode and will not switch off until the update is complete. If Sensate runs out of charge, you will need to fully charge it, before continuing the update. You will not be able to use Sensate until the update it complete.

 

SOUND / VIBRATION

Q: Bluetooth says it is connected but there is no vibration / sound?

A: First pause and re-start the current track. Then turn off Sensate, quit App (not just close screen*) and restart. If that doesn’t work, restart the phone.

  * To quit an App on an iPhone, double click the Home button and swipe the Sensate screen upwards 

UPDATES

Q: How do I perform an Update?

A: There are two kinds of Updates you can run, App updates through the App Store/Google Play and firmware (built-in software) updates on the Sensate device itself. Always run any updates that are prompted or that you find in the app store. If you have any issues completing an update, quit the Sensate App and turn off your Sensate. Reopen the App, turn on your Sensate. When connected (this should be instant) you may be asked to update, which you should accept. Otherwise click the cog top right corner of the App and click Sensate Update. Wait until the progress bar is complete (this will take several minutes), keep your phone next to Sensate and don't close the App screen. If that doesn’t work, restart the phone and repeat this procedure.

App updates:

Go to the App Store / Google Play and see if you have an App update available. There is an device Update option in the cog in the top right corner of the App. Also click this and see if it says you are up to date.

Q: I am being asked to completed the update and but it is complete already?

A: Update the App and then see if there is still an update available in the cog in the top right corner of the App.

Q: The light is flashing.

A: Is the Sensate light still flashing yellow and green? If so, you will need to complete the update to continue. You can do this by following these steps:

  1. Fully charge the Sensate
  2. Close the app and restart your phone
  3. Switch bluetooth on and make sure that you are not in airplane mode.
  4. Turn Sensate on, then open the app
  5. Sensate should connect within a few seconds. Once connected, tap the Settings cog and ’Sensate Update’
  6. The update will require Sensate to be on and the app to be in the foreground. It’s best if you leave the Sensate next to your phone during the update.
  7. Start the update. The update can take up to 20 minutes.

The flashing light means your Sensate is trying to finish a firmware update, but was unable to complete for some reason. (a firmware update is not the same as an App update). Uninstall the App and then install again. Restart your phone, start the Sensate App, turn your Sensate on. If you are prompted to update then accept, otherwise click the cog top right corner of the App and click Sensate Update. Wait until the progress bar is compete (this will take several minutes) and don't close the App screen.

 

SOUNDTRACKS

Q: Will there be longer tracks?

A: There will be longer tracks and a repeat function! We are working on all kinds of stuff that will be introduced with future updates.

Q: Can I play my own music?

A: There is a lot of 'secret sauce' going on in the headphone and vibrotactile elements of the tracks, and what you can hear is just a small portion of the magic whilst the real work goes on at a sub-audible level. Our content is almost entirely non-verbal, as Sensate works at a pre-brain level. There will be new tracks available soon, and new ones coming along regularly, so something to suit everybody, including longer tracks. We will also be working with composers to create new material on a regular basis.

Q: Can I use Sensate without music?

A: The infrasound vibrations from Sensate have a powerful affect and can be used n their own if desired. Sensate is most effective when the vibrations from the pebble are combined with the music on headphones. However, you can listen to the tracks without turning your pebble on or experience the vibration without wearing headphones.

Q: Do I have to use headphones?

A: Sometimes it’s fine to play the soundtracks through your phone or via a speaker whilst wearing Sensate. But a lot of the ‘secret sauce’ in the music only works on headphones, so you should use headphones for the strongest impact. Some people use a pillow speaker when listening to the tracks in bed.

Q: Some tracks don't seem to play / only play for a minute?

A: The 'play' arrows on the Tracks screen are short track previews, you need to click download to actually get each track and use on the Start Session screen. Id you have downloaded a track and it is not playing, either the track was not fully downloaded or an Update is missing. Quit and restart everything and run the updates again if prompted. Or uninstall the App, restart your phone and re-download.

 

OTHER

Q: I can’t thread my lanyard?!

A: There is a technique that makes it easier! If you pinch the thin thread on the end of the lanyard so that just around 2mm is sticking out from between your fingers, you will be able to push the thread into the loop hole at the top of your Sensate. Then keep pushing until it pokes out the other side, pull the loop through and loop back through the lanyard head.

Q: does the sensate turn off on its own if not connected? 

A: Not currently. Please switch off when not in use to conserve the battery.

Q: How hot should my Sensate get?

A: After a period of continual use, your Sensate may feel warm, like a mobile phone after a long call. It should not get hot however, and if this occurs you should stop using Sensate, leave switched off, do not charge and contact us.

Q: Can I use Sensate in Airplane Mode?

A: Absolutely. Some people also do this if they are concerned about Wi-Fi (see also ‘Is Bluetooth safe?’). Also note use of Airplane mode:

Q: What is the moving contour icon for, when a track is playing?

A: This is a breath pacing trainer. The ideal breath rate when meditating is 6 breaths per minute, or one full breath in and out every ten seconds. The ideal ratio for this 10-second breath is 4 seconds breathing in gently and 6 seconds breathing out in a relaxed way. If you follow the contour icon whilst breathing you will create this pattern – breath in through the nose as the icon enlarges and breath out softly as the icon recedes.

Q: Will Sensate work on my device?

If you can download the App then your device has met the minimum requirements. Sensate is compatible with Android phones and tablets, iPhone, iPads and iPod Touch (6th gen).

Minimum iOS system requirement is 10.3 or later.

Minimum Android system requirement is 4.3 (Jelly Bean) or later.

Q: Can I download and use the App anywhere in the world?

A: The App download permissions are set to all countries, so you should be able to download anywhere. You can also download the App via these links, opened on your phone:
